American Corner Wrocław zaprasza uczniów szkół średnich i studentów 7 lutego o godz. 12.00 na prelekcję dotyczącą historii jazzu w języku angielskim pt. "A Brief Aural History of Jazz: Musical Narratives through Live Performance".
Wykład poprowadzi stypendystka Fulbrighta Alexa Torres Skillicorn, Jazz Violinist, MM in Jazz Violin Performance, UNT.

Alexa Torres Skillicorn is a jazz violinist and researcher from Texas. She holds a Master of Music in Jazz Studies (violin performance) from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from University of Texas, Austin. Throughout her career as a performer, she has played throughout Latin America, the US, and Europe. Alexa recorded her first album as a band leader to be released at the end of this year. As a researcher, she has conducted ethnomusicological fieldwork in Latin America and throughout Europe and recently began publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Alexa?s research interests include contemporary jazz traditions, music and politics, cultural agency in jazz, and the politicization of aesthetics. Her work as a musician and researcher has been recognized by numerous grants and awards including the Presser Graduate Music Award, The Fulbright award, the Competitive Graduate Jazz Violin Performance Scholarship, and several COLA grants. Currently, she is on a Fulbright researching Polish jazz violin traditions.
